Tracing the Traces of Dayak Culture in Pampang Village and Visit the Citra Niaga

On Sunday, 21st of July 2024, after lunch the 29 participants were accompanied by the PIC (student buddy) on a trip to Pampang village. Its Village stands out for its deep-rooted cultural heritage. The Dayak people, who inhabit this region, have a long history that is intricately woven into the fabric of the village’s daily life.

The participants learned about Dayak culture that is characterized by its distinct rituals, traditional arts, and communal values, which are vividly showcased in Pampang. One of the village’s most remarkable features is its traditional longhouses, or rumah betang. These communal dwellings are not just architectural marvels but also symbols of unity and shared heritage. The longhouses are built on stilts and often feature elaborate carvings and motifs that reflect the spiritual and cultural beliefs of the Dayak community.

Apart from that, participants watched directly the perfomance of traditional music and dance which was characterized by intricate movements and elaborate costumes, as well as the powerful Tarian Perang or war dance. The participants enjoyed the show of Dayak dance and practiced the Dayak dance as well.

After that, they went to Citra Niaga, a place selling typical Kalimantan products. Participants went around,  looked at the local craft and cultural products such as wood carvings, weaving and traditional jewelry. Inside of that there were various types of clothing, shoes, and fashion accessories available from both local and International. So they bought some souvenirs such as bracelets, bags, batik clothes and tested some food and drink because there were some processed food and beverage products that were ready for consumption including snacks and soft drinks. They enjoyed it while walking around until the afternoon.

In the evening participants enjoyed dinner with Pic and other supervisors at Ayam Kerupuk Wanda restaurant, tried Indonesian food dishes while doing some conversation and funny things in order to get to know each other.
