Learning Health and Safety the Fun Way: SUNTROPiS 2025 at the Faculty of Public Health

On Friday, 8 August 2025, SUNTROPiS 2025 international attendees visited Mulawarman University’s Faculty of Public Health. The trip showed the value of a healthy way of life and readiness for disaster; it used several hands-on activities. The day started with a morning exercise session. The Faculty of Public Health arranged and led the event in front of the main building. This warm-up got people ready for the day’s schedule.

After the exercise, everyone went into the faculty’s theatre hall for a health education session. The topic was “Isi Piringku,” meaning “What’s on My Plate.” This material taught participants about a balanced diet, it showed four main parts of a healthy plate; a main dish, which is carbohydrates, a side dish of protein, vegetables along with fruits. The session pointed out that main dishes and vegetables should fill more of the plate than the other items. To help them learn more, participants joined a group activity; they drew and showed their own balanced plate. Each group displayed their ideas plus what they knew. After presentations, the group “Tarsius” won the challenge.

The agenda continued with fire safety and evacuation training. Faculty members explained procedures to follow if an alarm sounds; they provided step by step instructions on how to leave a building safely. Participants took part in practical drills. This included putting out a fire with a fire blanket. They learned about fire hydrants plus other safety tools. This provided knowledge and experience for emergencies. The program concluded. Participants then went to Friday Prayer. That ended the day’s agenda.

This visit gave students from other countries knowledge about good nutrition; they also learned important skills for fire safety and disaster management. Physical activity, lessons where they took part, plus practice drills made the Faculty of Public Health plan informative. This plan also had an impact. Participants took home useful lessons to their communities.
