Mahakam River Joy Sailing

Mahakam River Joy Sailing

There were mixed feelings of joy, serenity, and sadness as the sun set down below the horizon during the Mahakam River’s Joy Sailing. Arriving from the dormitory at 5 PM local time, the participants and committee boarded the recreational boat on the Mahakam Hilir Pier. Excitement rose when they knew they would experience the joy of recreational sailing, but also felt a little bit melancholic as they knew the following day would be the last day of Suntropis.

The boat took them for around two hours of sailing on the Mahakam River. It was such a breathtaking moment to see the river’s splendid view upon sunset, and simply mingled among each other. For those who were in their first time ever setting foot on East Kalimantan, they wasted no time collecting numerous pictures. The boat passed several famous landmarks of Samarinda in its course, like the Mahkota Bridge, the Islamic Center, and the shining Bigmall.

Some participants even took the opportunity to collect as many aesthetic footage for their video assignment. Each assigned group can be seen recording their own members, making the buddies to give testimonies, and taking cinematic video of the Mahkota Bridge.

Then dinner came as the sky finally set to starry darkness. The committee handed each of the participants a special menu of either fried or grilled duck. “The meat is so tender!” said one participant, enjoying the food as music from the deck below colorized the atmosphere.

And when the ship came back to its original departing point, all the participants had the chance for a picture with all of the committee, ending their wonderful night
